The valley is a great place for cycling: You can either head out towards the coast where the landscape is gently rolling or you can head for the hills for something more challenging if you are really fit you can take on one of the mighty lakes passes. The roads hereabouts are wonderfully scenic and it doesn't take much to get off the beaten path, where you can find yourself in complete solitude, with just the sheep in the fields for company.

A nice circular route form Hinning House is to cycle up the valley and onto Ulpha fell then take the track past Devoke Water down to the coast road and then back.

If you would like to keep away from the roads, there is a cycle path which runs from The Eskdale Ratty to Muncaster Castle and the coast.  Ask at the Eskdale Ratty for further details. You can hire bikes for from the Eskdale Ratty terminus.
